In 1913 A. R.
McAllister was a shop teacher in the Joliet Township High School.
That year the Board of Education assigned him to the position of Band Director of the High School Band.
We all know the history of the High School Band after A. R. McAllister assumed the reign.
They won many national championships, and he was one of the founding fathers
of the Illinois School Band Association and also one of its past presidents
Joliet's nicknames is the "City of Champions."
This nickname stems from the numerous state and national titles
won by the Joliet Township High School and
grade school bands over several decades
Joliet Township High School Band won
state championships in 1924, 1925, and 1926, and the
National High School Band Contest three years in a row, 1926-1928

The JT West band has had six directors:

I. V. Foster, 1990-1992
Ted Lega, 1992-1993

Eric Wellman, 2014-present
The JT Central band has had only five directors:
A. R. McAllister, 1912-1944
Bruce H. Houseknecht, 1945-1969
Ted Lega, 1969-2002
Mike Fiske, 2002-2016
Don Stinson, 2016-present
