JTHS BAA MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES
for SEPTEMBER 8, 2010
Attendance: Brad, Jan, Art,
Gene, Melissa
A meeting was conducted at JTW
Library on September 8, 2010.
Minutes from the July 14, 2010
meeting were read. After
corrections, the minutes were
approved as corrected by Melissa
and Jan seconded. The
Treasurer’s Report was also
reviewed. There being no change
from the last meeting, it was
accepted by Melissa and seconded
by Art.
Bowling Planning:
The board decided to hold the
Second Annual Scotch Doubles
Bowling Fundraiser on November
7, 2010 at Comet Lanes in Crest
Hill based on cost and food
offers. It will be at the same
time as last year (1:30 p.m.).
Comet Lanes will charge us a
$25.00 deposit and $15.00 per
couple, which will include
shoes, 3 games (2 hours), pizza
and pop. We will charge $30.00
per couple or $20.00 per
individual, the same as last
year. For advertising, we will
use the same design as last year
with this year’s updated
information. Briese Park
(Joliet, IL) message board and
“6 corners” were discussed as
possible additional locations
for advertising. Our FEIN
number needs to be provided to
businesses giving us donations.
Annual Meeting Planning:
2010-2011 Meeting dates were
proposed as every second
Wednesday of the month.
Locations of the meetings will
vary, with the intention of
increasing meeting attendance.
Some suggestions were made for
area restaurants to hold
meetings in. Working sessions
will be held in addition to
regular meetings to allow for
additional 2012 planning.
A proposed Agenda for the Annual
Meeting was reviewed.
Working Sessions:
The upcoming year’s working
sessions will include working on
the Database, Email address
manager, and website updates,
among others.
Tax issues:
A sidebar was included in our
meeting to discuss the need to
file Form 990’s for all
nonprofit groups now, as Jan
learned in recent news.
Following research with a CPA
and Chet June (local attorney,
school board president), Melissa
determined that we do not have
to file the return ourselves.
Since we currently operate under
the JTHS Foundation, we use
their FEIN number and are to be
included in their annual
filings. Since we have not been
included in previous years’
returns, the burden falls upon
the Foundation to file amended
returns which include our income
values. Discussion of
incorporating separately and its
potential benefits/burdens was
held. Since the JTHS Alumni
Association is currently going
through this process, Gene
motioned to remain under the
umbrella of the JTHS Foundation
until such time as the Alumni
Association incorporates
itself. Melissa seconded this
Motion.
Discussion continued following
my need to leave the meeting at
8:30.
Respectfully Submitted,
Melissa Christman, Director
